Johan Sandell appointed as the new CEO of Mediconsult

The Board of Directors of Mediconsult Oy has appointed Johan Sandell as the CEO of Mediconsult, effective October 1, 2025. Sandell has served as a senior advisor to Mediconsult’s management since spring 2025, contributing to the preparation of the new strategy and organizational reform. Previously, Sandell has held CEO positions at Ambientia Group Oy and SAS Institute Oy.

Tommi Salaspuro, who has served as CEO of Mediconsult since 2008, will move to the company’s Board of Directors and take on responsibility for leading Mediconsult’s internationalization.

Salaspuro has served consecutively as Mediconsult’s CEO for nearly twenty years. Now, as the company celebrates its 50th anniversary, it stands at the threshold of a new phase of growth. “I believe this is the right moment to transfer the leadership of the company and to bring new perspectives and energy to the next phase of development. I have strong confidence in Mediconsult’s future under Johan’s leadership. I fully support Johan and the rest of the management team in their roles, and in my new position, I will focus more strongly on driving Mediconsult’s internationalization and growth,” says outgoing CEO Tommi Salaspuro.

Mediconsult has renewed its strategy and is seeking profitable growth by focusing especially on solutions for social care, home care, and residential services, as well as high-security patient record management systems and solutions for oral health care. Mediconsult already holds a strong position in the Finnish market in these areas, and now the company aims to strengthen its expansion into international markets.

Johan Sandell looks forward to new challenges with enthusiasm. “I am excited to lead a growing, internationalizing family business that plays a key role in reforming social and healthcare services and in bringing Finnish technology expertise to international markets. Mediconsult is excellently positioned for profitable growth and to strengthen its market position both in Finland and internationally. As a first priority, we will focus on ensuring the successful deployment of our Saga systems and further strengthening our existing customer relationships,” says Johan Sandell.
