Mediconsult’s Saga Social Care Case Management System Implemented in Lapland Wellbeing Services County

On December 4, 2025, the Wellbeing Services County of Lapland began using the Saga Social Care case management system delivered by Mediconsult Oy. The system was introduced in social services in Tervola, Keminmaa, Ylitornio, and Enontekiö, in individual client cases handled by school social workers, as well as in home care and residential units in Pelkosenniemi and Savukoski. The rollout will expand to the entire wellbeing services county by February 2026.

 

Supporting the Standardization and Renewal of Social Care

Finnish national requirements have a broad impact on social care practices and client work processes in wellbeing services counties. Established practices are changing as client matters and records are processed according to nationally defined workflows and document structures.

Mediconsult’s Saga Social Care case management system is a pioneer in meeting these national requirements. Implementing Saga at the wellbeing services county level supports the standardization and renewal of social care based on regional goals and the latest national guidelines.

In Lapland, preparations for this transformation have been exceptionally thorough. Previous municipality-specific practices have been systematically harmonized and updated to meet national requirements, leveraging the opportunities offered by the new system. Thanks to this preparation, Lapland has been able to make clear decisions about the content of the system, which has greatly facilitated implementation and adherence to planned timelines.

Saga Simplifies and Speeds Up Professionals’ Work

The flexible, modular interface of Saga Social Care and its nationally compliant documentation models make recording and managing client data easier and faster. Saga ensures a consistent user experience for social care professionals across all service units and tasks.

Information can be transferred widely and in real time, making it easily accessible to professionals across units, including between social and healthcare services. Key data and functions are clearly visible in the interface, while less frequently used features are easy to find in the background. Professionals can view data simultaneously from multiple modules without switching back and forth between pages.

Phasing Out Legacy Systems Reduces Costs

Until now, Lapland has used 17 separate social care systems and nine systems for school social workers. With Saga’s implementation, the wellbeing services county can retire these old, municipality-specific systems, resulting in significant cost savings.
